George Rodriguez
Position: Varsity Assistant Coach
Email: george.rodriguez@boiseschools.org
Biography:
A former Borah Lion that played under Coach Cada as a junior and senior from 1996-1998. Led the ’98 team to a 22-4 record while recording 21 consecutive wins, an outright conference championship to go along with a District Title as well. The ’98 team lost a heart breaker in the state championship game that ended the winning streak at 21 games. After the season was over I was voted to 3rd team all-conference and honorable mention on the all-state team. In the fall of the 1998 year. I also started for the Boys varsity soccer team.
After Borah, I was recruited to play College Basketball at the College of Southern Idaho. During my first semester at CSI I was injured and forced to take a red shirt year. Ultimately, I left CSI and played 1 year at Blue Mountain Community College. My sophomore year I played right down the road at Walla Walla Community College for Coach Jeff Reinland. That year we ended number 4 overall in the NWAAC. After completing my sophomore year at WWCC I returned for the 2 seasons to coach with coach Reinland as one of his assistants.
I have been married to my wife, Katie, since August of 2013. We have two beautiful daughters,Sydnie 10 and Skylar 2. Our oldest daughter Sydnie loves to play sports (basketball, soccer) so we spend most of our time cheering her on!
I am currently working here at Borah in the special education department. This is my 3rd year working with the kids and could not be more proud to be a part of such a special program. The special education department team is first class on every level and it is an honor to work with such caring and loving individuals.
I have been coaching basketball for the last 11 years in AAU with high school boys and spent the last 4 years coaching my daughter’s team with Hoop Dreams basketball club here in Boise. This will be my 2nd season as assistant varsity coach of the Borah Boys Basketball program. I have enjoyed the balance of the young girls and the older boys because the age difference keeps my coaching skills polished from the fundamentals to the strategic parts of the game. There is no better feeling then to share the knowledge I learned over the years with the younger generation of ballers. I am impressed with the foundation of concepts today’s youth experiences and translates onto the basketball floor.Their eagerness to learn keeps my personal passion for the game burning on a day to day basis.
I could not be more excited to be back at my Alma mater giving back the program that elevated my understanding of the game of basketball. I had the blessing to coach alongside the best high school basketball coach in the state, Cary Cada. Coach Cada taught me a long time ago about the importance of teammates, hard work, and how to control my competitive passion for the game I love. I look forward to continuing the Borah tradition of pride and excellence while coaching next to Jeremy Dennis.

Bio: Born and raised in Lewiston, Idaho. My family moved to Boise while I was attending the University of Idaho. I moved to Boise shortly after I graduated from college. My greatest basketball accomplishment was helping bring home a State Championship trophy to Lewiston, first time since 1948. Being on that squad taught me a lot of things, most importantly that being on a team means you are family. You push each other and hold each other accountable. I am proud to be a Borah Lion and excited to start my coaching career.
